The College of Arts & Sciences offers distinctive degree and nondegree programs in Anthropology, Criminology, Economics, English, Environmental Science and Policy, Florida Studies, Geography, Government and International Affairs (GIA), Graphic Design, History, Interdisciplinary Social Science, Journalism and Media Studies, Psychology, Social Work, and World Languages. The College mission is to provide the best possible research-based education while affording our students a more personal academic experience. The College hosts the University Honors Program, which offers academically gifted, highly motivated students an exceptional college experience that is not "only challenging, but broadens and deepens..." their undergraduate education. Specially designed honors seminars span the sciences and humanities and offer an unusual amount of freedom to explore an interdisciplinary approach to the acquisition of knowledge. The College of Arts & Sciences houses three Programs of Distinction where students, faculty and the community have a unique opportunity to explore the history and culture of the state of Florida (Florida Studies), examine the scientific, political, and economic influences on our environment (Environmental Science, Policy and Geography) and learn how to report, present and interpret the news using 21st century tools (Journalism and Media Studies). The close proximity of such distinguished institutions as the Florida Humanities Council and the U.S. Geological Survey expands the learning opportunities for students beyond the traditional classroom setting.
